Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors propelled shares lower.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were SSE PLC (LON:), which rose 3.94% or 66.50 points to trade at 1,753.50 at the close. Tui AG (LON:) added 3.43% or 4.30 points to end at 129.70 and Carnival PLC (LON:) was up 3.04% or 21.60 points to 733.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Standard Chartered PLC (LON:), which lost 4.28% or 25.80 points to trade at 576.80 in late trade. Glencore PLC (LON:) declined 3.82% or 18.60 points to end at 468.25 and Associated British Foods PLC (LON:) shed 3.61% or 54.50 points to 1,455.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1027 to 767 and 459 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.81% or 13.85 to $1,726.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 4.66% or 4.05 to hit $82.83 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 4.16% or 3.86 to trade at $88.97 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 1.15, while EUR/GBP rose 0.93% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.37% at 109.79.
