U.K. shares higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 0.29%


Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in London, the rose 0.29%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Antofagasta PLC (LON:), which rose 4.16% or 46.00 points to trade at 1,151.00 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:) added 3.19% or 23.40 points to end at 756.40 and BHP Group PLC (LON:) was up 2.90% or 61.50 points to 2,182.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Melrose Industries PLC (LON:), which lost 9.34% or 12.85 points to trade at 124.80 in late trade. Associated British Foods PLC (LON:) declined 7.56% or 110.00 points to end at 1,345.00 and B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:) shed 5.02% or 18.20 points to 344.10.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 978 to 808 and 481 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.51% or 8.85 to $1,718.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.75% or 2.25 to hit $84.19 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.95% or 1.72 to trade at $89.72 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.18% to 1.15, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.08% to 0.87.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 109.74.
