The biggest gainers of the session on the were Centrica PLC (LON:), which rose 4.98% or 4.12 points to trade at 86.90 at the close. Tui AG (LON:) added 4.74% or 6.25 points to end at 138.20 and Anglo American PLC (LON:) was up 4.72% or 132.00 points to 2,926.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Avast PLC (LON:), which lost 0.50% or 3.60 points to trade at 716.60 in late trade. BAE Systems PLC (LON:) declined 0.38% or 3.00 points to end at 784.40 and AstraZeneca PLC (LON:) shed 0.11% or 12.00 points to 10,500.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1338 to 457 and 474 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.60% or 10.25 to $1,730.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 3.91% or 3.27 to hit $86.81 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 3.87% or 3.45 to trade at $92.60 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.82% to 1.16, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.23% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.71% at 108.93.
