U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 1.43%


Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the declined 1.43%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:), which rose 2.43% or 19.60 points to trade at 827.00 at the close. Shell PLC (LON:) added 0.58% or 13.50 points to end at 2,341.00 and Whitbread PLC (LON:) was up 0.23% or 6.00 points to 2,669.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:), which lost 8.25% or 56.00 points to trade at 623.20 in late trade. ITV PLC (LON:) declined 5.34% or 3.54 points to end at 62.80 and Abrdn PLC (LON:) shed 4.63% or 6.90 points to 142.30.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1347 to 475 and 406 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.46% or 7.85 to $1,709.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.47% or 2.16 to hit $89.47 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.11% or 1.97 to trade at $95.14 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.65% to 1.16, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.32% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 109.18.
