Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the , and sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the declined 0.45% to hit a new 1-month low, while the index declined 0.72%, and the index lost 0.90%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the were Home Depot Inc (NYSE:), which rose 1.63% or 4.43 points to trade at 275.97 at the close. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:) added 1.53% or 3.48 points to end at 231.14 and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:) was up 1.53% or 2.52 points to 167.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:), which lost 3.67% or 5.49 points to trade at 144.29 in late trade. Chevron Corp (NYSE:) declined 2.60% or 4.17 points to end at 156.45 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:) shed 2.28% or 2.52 points to 108.25.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE:) which rose 3.35% to 55.29, Newmont Goldcorp Corp (NYSE:) which was up 3.09% to settle at 43.71 and Dollar Tree Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 2.89% to close at 141.92.
The worst performers were FedEx Corporation (NYSE:) which was down 21.40% to 161.02 in late trade, WestRock Co (NYSE:) which lost 11.48% to settle at 34.15 and International Paper (NYSE:) which was down 11.21% to 35.23 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Panbela Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 53.06% to 0.58, Applied Opt (NASDAQ:) which was up 50.40% to settle at 3.76 and Axcella Health Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 29.57% to close at 2.41.
The worst performers were Aditx Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 58.52% to 4.31 in late trade, Esports Entertainment Group Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 46.15% to settle at 0.18 and Shuttle Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 45.94% to 8.99 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2284 to 844 and 131 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2585 fell and 1159 advanced, while 233 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.38% or 6.35 to $1,683.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.29% or 0.25 to hit $85.35 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.81% or 0.74 to trade at $91.58 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 1.00, while USD/JPY fell 0.39% to 142.96.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 109.43.
