Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.99%


Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the , and sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the lost 0.99%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Whitecap Resources Inc . (TSX:), which rose 1.92% or 0.18 points to trade at 9.55 at the close. Richelieu Hardware Ltd. (TSX:) added 1.86% or 0.67 points to end at 36.68 and Precision Drilling Corporation (TSX:) was up 1.42% or 1.16 points to 82.86 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Interfor Corp (TSX:), which lost 6.57% or 1.97 points to trade at 28.03 in late trade. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:) declined 6.30% or 0.61 points to end at 9.07 and West Fraser Timber Co Ltd (TSX:) shed 6.11% or 6.72 points to 103.21.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 758 to 239 and 116 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.69% to 21.98.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.29% or 4.80 to $1,673.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.19% or 1.02 to hit $84.34 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.15% or 1.06 to trade at $90.94 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.81% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.30% to 0.75.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.39% at 109.89.
