Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the lost 0.55%, while the index declined 0.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the were Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:), which rose 2.91% or 106.40 points to trade at 3,757.00 at the close. Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:) added 1.51% or 38.95 points to end at 2,622.50 and ITC Ltd (NS:) was up 1.47% or 4.95 points to 340.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shree Cements Ltd. (NS:), which lost 5.24% or 1,218.75 points to trade at 22,023.95 in late trade. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:) declined 3.85% or 37.35 points to end at 932.90 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:) shed 3.52% or 8.20 points to 224.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:) which rose 1.60% to 2,623.90, ITC Ltd (BO:) which was up 1.59% to settle at 341.05 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:) which gained 0.76% to close at 7,688.95.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:) which was down 3.19% to 1,223.90 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:) which lost 2.64% to settle at 226.40 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:) which was down 2.40% to 6,320.70 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1303 to 536 and 49 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2070 fell and 1244 advanced, while 126 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.81% to 19.33.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.79% or 13.25 to $1,684.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 2.61% or 2.19 to hit $86.13 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.49% or 2.26 to trade at $92.88 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.24% to 79.96, while EUR/INR fell 0.16% to 79.38.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 110.32.
