U.K. shares higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 0.63%


Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in London, the added 0.63%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:), which rose 5.69% or 48.00 points to trade at 891.60 at the close. Persimmon PLC (LON:) added 4.71% or 63.00 points to end at 1,400.00 and BAE Systems PLC (LON:) was up 4.30% or 33.20 points to 805.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:), which lost 6.84% or 56.20 points to trade at 765.80 in late trade. Ocado Group PLC (LON:) declined 5.18% or 31.40 points to end at 575.00 and InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:) shed 3.36% or 156.00 points to 4,489.00.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 976 to 860 and 456 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.19% or 3.15 to $1,674.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.37% or 0.31 to hit $83.63 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.24% or 0.22 to trade at $90.40 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 0.61% to 1.13, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.35% to 0.87.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.79% at 110.81.
