But he is now set to return to England before Japan’s second friendly match of the international break against Ecuador on Tuesday.

There is not any indication of an injury, with Tomiyasu looking in no distress as he exchanged shirts with fellow Arsenal man Matt Turner after the final whistle.

But his early return from national team duty will undoubtedly worry Gunners fans ahead of the North London derby against Spurs next weekend.

Tomiyasu has not yet started a Premier League match for Arsenal so far this season.

He spent the summer returning to fitness after a number of calf issues at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

As a result, any possible injury to Tomiyasu will concern Arsenal supporters.

Meanwhile, Thomas Partey has already suffered an injury blow while away with Ghana.

Partey, 29, was set to start for the Black Stars in their game against Brazil in France.

But, just a few minutes before kick-off, he was forced to withdraw after picking up a knee problem in the warm-up.

Mallorca star Iddrisu Baba stepped in to replace him, but Ghana did not disclose any information about the issue.

Goal are reporting it is unlikely Partey will feature against Nicaragua on Tuesday, but insist he should be available for the Spurs clash.
